First steps: sign in, deploy, connect

CloudPilot brings AWS EC2, Lightsail and Wavelength deployment, connections and everyday management into one workspace. Start with one instance, verify that it works, then use batch operations.

  • Sign in to CloudPilot
  • Get and add AWS credentials
  • Choose a deployment type
  • Identify Windows desktops in a batch
  • Wait for initialization, then open Web RDP
04 / CLOUDPILOT

Get AWS credentials and manage profiles

Obtain AWS API credentials first, then save them in CloudPilot. Follow either the IAM user key steps or the IAM Identity Center temporary-credential steps, according to how you access AWS.

  • Choose the credential type
  • Method A: open IAM and choose a user
  • Create a dedicated IAM user if needed
  • Assign permissions for the features you use
  • Create an access key
  • Save the ID and secret together
  • Method B: get temporary credentials from the AWS access portal
  • Copy all three temporary credential values
  • Fill in and save the panel profile
  • Refresh an expired temporary profile
  • Find, switch and import profiles
  • Distinguish invalid credentials from missing permissions
05 / CLOUDPILOT

Create EC2, Lightsail and Wavelength instances

Images, sizes and networking differ by deployment type. Available options depend on the region and account; use the choices returned by the creation dialog.

  • EC2: choose an image, size and targets
  • Lightsail: choose a region, image and bundle
  • Wavelength: prepare the environment first
  • Wavelength: create across regions in batches
  • Understand Spot and custom UserData
06 / CLOUDPILOT

Windows: startup URLs and bookmarks

Add websites and bookmarks when creating a Windows instance. Websites open automatically in the first desktop session, and bookmarks appear on the selected browser’s bookmarks bar.

  • Choose Edge or Brave
  • Preinstall Brave extensions
  • Load your own ZIP extensions
  • Use WARP for the browser only (experimental)
  • Check the WARP connection
  • Use Brave password saving and autofill
  • Understand Brave’s default setup
  • Understand Windows startup defaults
  • Fill in Automatically open URLs
  • Add Extra bookmarks
  • Use the favorites bar
  • Preinstall software if needed
07 / CLOUDPILOT

Web RDP: connections, toolbar and shortcuts

Web RDP lets you use a Windows remote desktop directly in your browser. Each instance opens in its own tab for individual control. Use Sync control to operate several desktops together.

  • Open a running Windows instance
  • Disconnection or Invalid Login
  • Open the toolbar with its icon
  • Use Mac shortcuts and display settings
08 / CLOUDPILOT

Clipboard: copy, paste and recover sync

Use the clipboard to copy text between your computer and a Windows remote desktop. If automatic transfer fails, use the toolbar to transfer text manually or repair the instance's clipboard.

  • Paste from your computer into Windows
  • Transfer text through the toolbar
  • Paste into several desktops in Sync control
  • Copy text from the master to your computer
  • Decide whether Windows clipboard repair is needed
09 / CLOUDPILOT

Synchronized control of Windows desktops

Connect 2–100 running Windows instances in a synchronized workspace. Mouse and keyboard input from the master is sent to selected followers. Individual RDP tabs are not required first.

  • Select instances and open Sync control
  • Align desktops before broadcasting
  • View desktops at equal size
  • Check connection state and follower selection
  • Share a desktop in another tab
  • Take control, then restore following
  • Pause and leave
10 / CLOUDPILOT

Disconnected input cache and catch-up replay

Cache missed input for a disconnected follower and replay it after reconnection while other connected desktops continue syncing.

  • Keep input caching enabled
  • Wait for automatic catch-up after a short outage
  • Check the desktop when confirmation is required
  • Know when the cache is cleared
11 / CLOUDPILOT

Playwright recording and scripts

Record page actions as Playwright code, or write/import JavaScript and TypeScript. Run on multiple browsers, after a delay or in a loop.

  • Open the script panel
  • Record or write code
  • Browsers on AWS instances
  • Batch and loop execution
12 / CLOUDPILOT

Record operations and replay in batches

Demonstrate a sequence on one master desktop, then replay it on several others in the same order and timing. Replay targets are selected separately from live-sync followers.

  • Repeat creation, replay and deletion
  • Schedule replay when creating instances
  • Connect and prepare matching starting pages
  • Start and stop recording on the master
  • Select targets and start batch replay
  • Check progress or stop playback
  • Reuse, replace and retain a recording
  • Import and replay on new instances
  • Handle interruptions and recording limits
13 / CLOUDPILOT

Linux proxies and IP management

Install SOCKS5, Shadowsocks, VMess or VLESS proxies when creating a Linux instance. Then copy connection details or scan a QR code to import them into a client that supports the protocol.

  • Choose protocols and connection settings
  • Inspect details and import into your client
  • Choose egress and manage IPs
14 / CLOUDPILOT

Instance management, AMIs and cleanup

Use the dashboard for everyday operations, AMI management for EC2 images, and resource cleanup for resources you no longer need. Available actions depend on provider and instance state.

  • Choose an action under Manage
  • Check connectivity and networking
  • Create an AMI from EC2
  • Review each item before cleanup
15 / CLOUDPILOT

Scheduled actions

Schedule instance start, stop, reboot or deletion once, daily, weekly or monthly.

  • Choose an instance, action and time
  • Check enabled state and execution conditions
16 / CLOUDPILOT

Regions, zones and quotas

Before deploying, check the target region's status, availability zones and account quotas to confirm it is ready for your resources.

  • Check region status
  • Query vCPU quotas
17 / CLOUDPILOT

CloudFront and custom domains

Create and manage distributions in CloudFront, optionally using your own domain and certificate. Domains, certificates and DNS are configured separately.

  • Create a distribution and wait for deployment
  • Configure a custom domain and certificate
  • Refresh content and manage the distribution
18 / CLOUDPILOT

Daily counts, billing and saved preferences

Statistics help review the current credential profile, account pages manage your CloudPilot account, and browser preferences and creation drafts have different lifetimes.

  • Check Created today
  • Check billing and your account
  • Change language and use the mobile menu
  • Account settings and local preferences

Troubleshooting

Identify the failing step before acting on the affected instance. Keep the region and instance ID with any error message.

I have an access key ID. Where can I find its secret?

A secret is available only at key creation and cannot be recovered from its ID. Check the CSV or secure storage used at the time. If lost, follow AWS’s replacement procedure: create a new pair, update dependent applications, then deactivate and retire the old key.

Do I need the optional Session Token field?

Leave it blank for long-term IAM user keys. It is required for temporary credentials from Identity Center, role sessions or STS. Use a matching key ID, secret and token, and replace all three after expiry. Do not enter an SSO URL, SSO region, verification code or sign-in password.

Why is Create access key missing or disabled in AWS?

Confirm that you are on an IAM user’s security-credentials page, not a role or Identity Center user page. Creation requires permission. An IAM user can have at most two access keys, including inactive keys; check dependencies and follow AWS’s key-management process before removing an old key.

Why does Brave still ask me to save a password?

The defaults enable saving prompts and automatic sign-in; they do not silently save every password. Choose Save after first signing in to a site to use those credentials later. Choices in an existing Brave profile are preserved.

Will existing instances receive the new browser and startup defaults?

No. These defaults are applied when creating new instances with the built-in Windows setup. Refreshing the panel or reconnecting RDP does not install Brave, disable Wallet or change startup settings on an existing instance.

Why does catch-up still require confirmation after reconnecting?

A long outage, possibly incomplete input or another disconnection during catch-up requires checking the target first. Choose Replay if the page state is suitable, or discard the cache and align the desktop again.

Why is batch replay unavailable?

Finish a recording containing input, then select other desktops under Select replay targets. Background replay needs running instances with saved Windows passwords; only in-page replay requires connected desktops with matching dimensions. The source of a recording captured in this page cannot be a target; imported recordings are not tied to their original instance. Follow selections do not replace replay-target selection.

Can I recover a recording after refreshing?

Imported recordings marked Saved to account restore automatically in future workspaces, including on another browser or device. New recordings made in this page must first be downloaded as JSON and imported to remember them. New recordings that were neither downloaded nor imported cannot be recovered after a refresh; a submitted background task continues running, but its execution contents are removed when it ends and do not replace a local backup. Disconnected-input caches are not included in recording files.

What should I do if deployment takes a long time?

Instance creation, network setup and software installation take time. Wait for the deployment result, then refresh the instance list to check created resources. View software installation progress in SSM command status. After partial batch success, retry only failed targets to avoid duplicate instances.

The instance is running. Where are my URLs and bookmarks?

The first boot still needs Windows initialization, reboot and desktop login to finish. Allow the desktop to become ready. URLs and bookmarks must be entered during creation with the built-in UserData retained. If they still do not appear, check the instance's initialization log for errors.

How do I add and use JavaScript bookmarklets?

Open Extra bookmarks when creating Windows, then enter a name and the complete code beginning with javascript:, up to 1 MiB in total. In the remote desktop, open the target webpage and click the bookmark on the favorites bar to run it.

What should I do if Web RDP cannot connect?

For connection errors such as Failed to create the RDP session, check the current profile, region and target instance. Confirm that the instance is running, Windows is ready and an address is assigned, then check remote desktop port rules. Also check the relay instance if used. Keep the full error and retry the affected instance.

What should I do if I cannot paste text into a remote desktop?

Copy the text again, return to the target RDP tab and check whether the browser allows clipboard access for this site. Try transferring a short text through the toolbar's Clipboard area. If manual transfer also fails, use Manage → Repair RDP Clipboard for that instance, then copy the text again.

What should I do if some desktops are not following synchronized input?

Confirm that synchronization is active and that followers are connected, selected and using matching dimensions. Reconnected followers retain their selection. With input caching enabled, short outages replay automatically; resolve any confirmation or cache-full notice on the affected desktop. If input lands in the wrong place, pause and align windows, pages, dialogs and zoom across desktops before resuming.

Where is the RDP toolbar icon?

It is off by default. Enable Show remote desktop toolbar icon in panel Settings, then click the teal button at the top right of an individual RDP tab. Ctrl + Alt + Shift also works. The synchronized workspace and shared tabs have their own controls.

What should I do if repair or installation reports SSM unavailable?

SSM is the AWS Systems Manager remote management service used for software installation and some repairs. Confirm the instance is running and initialized, then check SSM command status. If it remains unavailable, check the instance's SSM Agent, network connectivity and AWS permissions.

Why is an existing instance missing from the list?

Check Current credential and the 12-digit AWS account ID, select the instance's region, then clear unnecessary searches or filters and refresh. Check expiry if using temporary credentials. After switching profiles, the list shows resources accessible to the selected profile.

Do cloud AI agents cost anything?

They are currently free, with no Pro access code or AWS credentials needed. When you sign in with your own ChatGPT or Claude account or use an API key, model usage is billed by that service under your subscription or key. Workers AI may have a monthly usage limit.

What is kept while a workspace sleeps?

Files in /workspace, the chats, AI sign-ins and API keys are kept. Software installed outside /workspace, commands running in terminals and background services are not. With the experimental fast wake, sleep also snapshots the whole container so installed software survives, but the snapshot excludes sign-ins and .env files.

Are my AI sign-ins and API keys safe?

Sign-ins and API keys are stored encrypted and used only by their workspace. They are deleted when you switch to Share the terminal and files or delete the workspace. .env files stay out of ordinary backups and are encrypted separately.

Why is AI chat off after I shared a workspace?

With Share the terminal and files, members could read anything in the workspace from the terminal, so it keeps no AI sign-ins, API keys or chats and no one can use AI. To use AI again, switch to Only me or Share everything in Settings, then sign in or enter an API key again.

Why can't I create or wake a workspace?

By default an account can have 3 workspaces with 1 awake at a time, and a member waking a workspace you shared counts toward yours. When a limit is reached, delete a workspace you no longer need or put another one to sleep. When the service is busy, waking retries automatically for up to about 15 minutes.
