CloudFront and custom domains

Create and manage distributions in CloudFront, optionally using your own domain and certificate. Domains, certificates and DNS are configured separately.

Updated October 8, 2026

  1. Create a distribution and wait for deployment

Enter the origin domain and required options, then create the distribution and watch its status. Follow the origin field's hostname format. Configuration takes time to propagate after the creation request succeeds.

  2. Configure a custom domain and certificate

Enter your domain and request or provide an ACM certificate in us-east-1, then complete domain validation. Configure DNS records pointing to the CloudFront domain as instructed. Entering a domain alone does not complete DNS setup.

  3. Refresh content and manage the distribution

After updating your origin, submit an invalidation when cached content needs refreshing. Check the returned state after enable, disable or delete actions. If prompted to use the SSM fallback, choose an available managed Linux instance and inspect the command result.
